Which Natural Paint product to use where
Painting interior walls.
You have a choice of three paints here.
The most economical product is Biopin Wallpaint. It is available in white matt only and works well over new plaster or previously painted walls. This is a great standard product and covers well. The other two options are from earthborn. Earthborn Emulsion is a fantastically easy to use very high quality matt wallpaint with excellent hiding power. It is available in a range of attractive colours as well as white. Earthborn claypaint is an ultra flat matt finish of exceptional quality. It works well over new plaster or previously painted walls in modern or traditional settings and is available in a great range of colours. It is even more breathable than the above two wallpaints which makes it the best paint bar none for old traditional buildings to preserve their breathing walls structure and can even be used over lime plaster or on cob walls. It is recommended by various English heritage organisations and is even used in the Royal Household.
The above three wallpaints are matt which means if you want to be able to wash and scrub your walls we recommend applying a thin coat of clear Earthborn Wall Glaze over painted areas subject to very heavy wear and dirt e.g. utility rooms. Wallglaze will give the painted surfaces a very slight sheen, but less than using a conventional silk paint.
Painting interior woodwork (skirting, doors, window sills, banisters, panelling etc)
For a normal painted finish on your interior woodwork such as doors and skirting, you have the choice of two products. Both will work well over new wood as well as previously painted wood as long as it is well prepared. Earthborn Pro Aqua Eggshell is at the cutting edge of eco paint technology. It has a tough satin finish, is dry in less than 1 hour and comes in a range of colours including white. Alternatively you can go for Biopin Deko-Trend (coming soon) available in pastel shades and off-whites. It offers a less shiny soft satin finish.
If you want to retain the natural look of your wood there are various options available for clear finishes or coloured stains. Biopin Hardwax Oil and Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil both provide a tough clear finish for unpainted interior woodwork. Biopin Hardwax Oil is petrochemical free, but takes a little longer to dry than the Osmo product. Biopin Hardwax Oil also provides a slightly shinier satin finish. For a quick drying water-based finish that doesn’t accentuate the grain or colour of wood Earthborn Pro Aqua Varnish is a good choice.
Coloured stains allow the wood grain to remain visible. Biopin Interior Wood Stain (coming soon) is superb value for money, water based and available in a good range of colours. Osmo Woodwax Finish is an excellent oil based alternative.
Wood floors
Biopin Hardwax Oil and Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil are both excellent floor finishes. They both bring out the natural colour and grain of wood. For oak and tropical hardwoods we would recommend Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil. Biopin Hardwax Oil is petrochemical free using citrus oil instead of de-aromatised white spirit. For adding colour to your floors use Osmo Woodwax Finish prior to finishing with Osmo Polyx Hardwax Oil. Wooden floors can be easily maintained by occasionally wiping down with Biopin Floor Conditioner or Osmo Wash and Care
