5 questions to ask your paint supplier

  1. Do you have a list of ingredients I can see? If the answer is no - be very wary! if the answer is yes - study the list carefully!
  2. Does your emulsion paint contain petrochemicals such as acrylic, vinyl or similar? Some paint companies try to claim their paint is healthy and environmentally friendly by mentioning a few ingredients that they don't use and their low VOC levels - trouble is their paint is still packed full of crude-oil derived ingredients and therefore far from 'eco'.
  3. What is the binder in your paint made from and where does it come from? If it is a petrochemical based binder then it started life in an oil well like the petrol you use in your car! Our paints use renewable ingredients such as plant oils which are generally grown within a few miles of the European factorys in which the paint is made.
  4. Are all the colourants in your paint VOC free? Although many of the paints we sell use natural pigments, we do also use some VOC free synthetic colourants to achieve some of the colours our customers expect - its a compromise we have found our customers are willing to accept.
  5. Are any of the products you sell/manufacture required to carry a danger symbol (orange label with dead fish and dead tree)? We think that any decorative paint company that still produces even a few products that have to carry this label, is less than serious when it comes to health and the environment.
